About the instructor:
Alex is a Founder and Managing Partner of Syntella Partners. Before founding Syntella, he was Head of Metals and Mining Investment Banking at Rodman & Renshaw, LLC, a publicly-listed middle market investment bank. As a co-founder of the Rodman metals and mining group in late 2008, he led the buildout of its origination and capital markets distribution efforts. From 2009-2010, Rodman & Renshaw participated in more than 30 metals and mining transactions with an aggregate value of over $3 billion for companies in Australia, North America, Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Alex joined Rodman & Renshaw with the acquisition of Miller Mathis & Co, a corporate finance advisory firm focused on the steel and iron ore industries, where he was a Vice President and founding member. From 2004 until its acquisition by Rodman & Renshaw in 2008, Miller Mathis advised on transactions totaling more than $50 billion. Some of the firm’s clients and counterparties included ArcelorMittal, SeverStal, Fortescue, Baosteel, Tata, and Dubai Investment Group among others. Before joining Miller Mathis, Alex was an investment banker at J.P. Morgan Securities and Cohen & Steers Capital Advisors and an equity analyst with Putnam Investments. Alex earned his A.B. in Mathematics and Economics from Cornell University where he also completed concentration requirements in Law & Society, European Studies, and Finance and was awarded the Cornell Tradition Fellowship. He earned an M.B.A. with Beta Gamma Sigma Honors from Columbia Business School and is a CFA charterholder. He was born in Kiev, Ukraine and is a native Russian speaker.
