We are pleased to bring you the following exclusive interview with Joe Koster, managing member and portfolio manager at Sorfis Investments, based in Charlotte. Joe shares insights into his investment process in a conversation with MOI Global contributor Tyler Howell. He offers his views on the learning curve of an investor, considerations for investing in smaller companies, as well as the processes and influences that shape his approach.
Prior to founding Sorfis in 2019, Joe worked as a managing member and co-portfolio manager at Boyles Asset Management. Before that, he worked for Chanticleer Holdings. Joe holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Coastal Carolina University.
At Sorfis, Joe focuses on quality businesses that fit within his circle of competence, have conservative balance sheets, and owner-operator management that understands capital allocation. The approach at Sorfis is to find value where the upside in terms of expected return is well in excess of the downside potential.
