About the instructor:
Mike Scholten joined Clear Harbor Asset Management in 2010 as an Investment Manager and a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Mike previously was employed by Ingalls & Snyder LLC, where he served as a Portfolio Manager. At Ingalls, Mike managed multi-asset class portfolios for individual and institutional clients. Prior to joining Ingalls, Mike was a Senior Portfolio Manager for Gryphon Partners, a multi-strategy hedge fund based in Dallas, Texas. At Gryphon, Mike managed the fund’s Deep Value and Capital Structure Arbitrage strategies, with a focus on the securities of distressed and bankrupt companies. Before joining Gryphon, Mike worked as a Senior Portfolio Manager and Debt Trader at Deerfield Capital Management, American General Investment Management, and First Chicago Capital Markets. Mike graduated magna cum laude from Colgate University with a BA in Economics and completed his MBA with a concentration in Finance at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
John Talbott is Investment Manager at Clear Harbor Asset Management, a SEC-registered investment advisory firm with over $400 million in assets under management. Previously, John was portfolio manager at JET Capital Management, an investment advisory firm in Dallas, Texas. Prior to his time at JET Capital, John served as a research analyst at Bonanza Capital, a Dallas-based hedge fund with over $500 million in assets under management at the time. Before joining Clear Harbor Asset Management, John managed all of the day-to-day financial and corporate activities of BOSS Exploration & Production, a private oil & gas company owned by Bonanza, including negotiating a sale of the majority of the company’s assets to an industry peer. Prior to Bonanza, John was an analyst at Credit Suisse in New York, working in the bank’s private funds placement business where he was primarily responsible for conducting due diligence on prospective hedge fund managers. He was also lead analyst on private fund placements in excess of $1 billion. John graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
