About the instructor:
Howard Smith is a Partner of Indus Capital Partners, LLC and a Senior Research Analyst for Indus Capital Advisors, Inc. based in Tokyo, working on the Indus Japan Fund and Indus Japan Long Only Fund with Sheldon Kasowitz. He has worked in Japan for over 20 years. Howard joined the firm in April 2002 from ING Barings where he worked in their Tokyo research department as a senior analyst covering major vehicle assemblers and tire companies, with earlier focus on JR railways, trucking companies and small-cap retailers. As an auto analyst he ranked in Nikkei, Reuters and Greenwich Surveys. Prior to ING he worked as a macroeconomist and country analyst with regional specialization on Northeast Asia for the Economist Intelligence Unit in London. Howard began his career in 1990 at Nomura Research Institute in Tokyo where he was an editor/economist. Howard, a Chartered Financial Analyst, earned his BA in Economics and Statistics at the University of York in the UK and his MSc in Economics at Birkbeck College, at the University of London in the UK. Howard is fluent in Japanese.
