About the book:

Find inspiration and a fresh perspective on the art of leadership in this account of a cub reporter who lands the interview of a lifetime and walks away with the keys to exceptional leadership. When the reporter meets with the most respected CEO in America, the businessman shares the seven secrets he learned long ago from his mentor―an eccentric but brilliant professor who taught him proven management principles that, while ancient in origin, are applicable in today’s fast-paced, high-tech world. The Way of the Shepherd is a compact, heart-warming story dotted with humor. It will teach you how to lead the people close to you so they will view their work as a calling rather than merely a job, a place to belong rather than a place to work. It shows leaders how to infuse work with meaning and how to engage, energize, and ignite their workforce and gives employees a better understanding of what makes for a quality work experience. It is a powerful metaphor for leaders that reaches back 5,000 years. It is . . . The Way of the Shepherd.

About the author:

Bill Pentak is an author, columnist, former pastor, professional speaker and public relations consultant. He is the founder of Open Doors Public Relations, a Dallas-based firm that specializes in helping companies win public support for their heavy industrial projects — projects that ultimately improve people’s lives, increase standards of living and provide vital community services.

To date, he has won public support for projects representing approximately US$8.4 billion in capital including eight combined-cycle power plants, biomass-fueled ethanol facilities, and the then largest solar farm in the Northeast United States.

Bill’s work has been covered by major media outlets including CNN, Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Reuters, CNBC, Associated Press, The Economist, National Geographic, NPR, The BBC, Forbes, NBC Nightly News and others.

His book, The Way of the Shepherd: Seven Ancient Secrets to Managing Productive People, published by a division of HarperCollins, has been endorsed by Ken Blanchard, co-author of The One Minute Manager, and business leaders across the nation. A senior vice-president of HR at a leading U.S. company with 289,000 employees said Bill’s book was “the best book on leadership that I have ever read.” The book is a best seller, having sold well in excess of 100,000 U.S. copies and has been printed in approximately 18 countries and languages.

Bill holds an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. He was recruited out of business school (and the pastorate) by Enron shortly before the company imploded in bankruptcy. He and his wife, Jodie, and their two children, Marshall and Anna, currently reside in Frisco, TX where he runs Open Doors Public Relations.
